Bromine Water
The bromine water test is a qualitative test, used to identify the alkene or alkane functional groups present in the compound. Alkene groups react with bromine water in the dark condition and undergo an addition reaction, to give a decolourized solution.
Uses
The major uses of bromine is a water purifier/disinfectant, as an alternative to chlorine. Brominated compounds are used for water treatment in swimming pools and hot tubs and are also used to control algae and bacterial growth in industrial processes.
