 A Face Mask is a disposable, loose-fitting or tight-fitting (respirator) barrier device designed to cover the wearer's nose and mouth. Its primary functions are source control (to contain the wearer's respiratory secretions) and personal protection (to filter inhaled airborne particles). In healthcare, specific types—such as ASTM-rated surgical masks for sterile procedures and NIOSH-certified respirators (e.g., N95) for aerosol-generating procedures—are critical PPE for infection prevention.
