Description

LCD Digital Heating Magnetic Stirrer (MS‑H280‑F1000)

PRIMARY CLINICAL & DIAGNOSTIC USES

1. Large‑Volume, Uniform Heating for Industrial‑Scale Clinical Preparations
Primary use: Provides a fully programmable LCD digital heating magnetic stirrer with a dedicated 1000 mL round‑bottom flask heating mantle, fitted with an alumina fibre sleeve (inner diameter 144.75 mm) that is ideally suited for large‑volume applications in industrial pharmaceutical production, clinical diagnostic labs, and academic research institutions. It is used for the controlled, uniform heating and simultaneous mixing of up to 1000 mL of patient samples, reagents, and biological specimens. The system features a maximum stirring capacity of 20 L (water) on its Ø135 mm ceramic‑coated aluminium work plate when the mantle is detached, a speed range of 200 to 1500 rpm (±20 rpm), and a heating temperature range from 25 °C to 280 °C, adjustable in 1 °C increments, with all parameters clearly displayed on the high‑resolution LCD screen.
How it helps: For the industrial pharmaceutical chemist and large‑volume clinical diagnostic processor, the precisely contoured 1000 mL round‑bottom flask heating mantle maximises surface‑to‑flask contact, eliminating localised hot spots that could degrade heat‑sensitive drug substances or clinical reagents. The intelligent interchangeable heating sleeve design allows flexible configuration with 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, or 1000 mL round‑bottom flasks (F series) and flat‑bottom beakers (B series) which can be interchanged arbitrarily. The unit can also be run as two independent devices – one heating (using the mantle) and one stirring (using the work plate) – simultaneously, dramatically improving instrument utilisation in lean diagnostic and QC laboratories. For the patient, the proven reproducibility, large‑volume capacity, and thermal uniformity of the DLAB platform ensure consistent conditions for critical, high‑throughput diagnostic sample preparation, supporting accurate test results and the safe, reliable development of new pharmaceutical compounds.
2. Large‑Volume Trace Element Digestion and Clinical Sample Preparation
Primary use: Used for the controlled digestion of up to 1000 mL of bulk patient samples – such as large batches of serum, whole blood, urine, and tissue homogenates – in strong acids at temperatures up to 280 °C, prior to trace element analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP‑MS). The built‑in temperature self‑calibration function and PT1000 external temperature sensor port (±0.2 °C accuracy) enable precise closed‑loop control and monitoring of the actual sample temperature.
How it helps: For the high‑throughput trace element analyst processing large volumes of patient samples in toxicology and occupational health screening, the 1000 mL capacity supports the simultaneous digestion of an entire batch of blood lead, urine cadmium, or heavy metal panel specimens in a single run, considerably reducing total preparation time. The external PT1000 temperature sensor (±0.2 °C accuracy) enables the instrument to regulate the actual temperature of the acid digest directly, ensuring complete and uniform oxidation of organic matrices even in demanding trace element analysis applications. The integrated temperature self‑calibration function (customer‑accessible) and dual independent safety circuits continuously monitor system status; if a sensor failure, over‑temperature (>420 °C), or short circuit is detected, the device stops heating, displays an error code, and cuts off power. For the patient undergoing heavy metal screening or nutritional deficiency monitoring, the accurate and controlled high‑volume digestion achieved with the LCD Digital Heating Magnetic Stirrer results in precise and reliable clinical measurements, free from matrix interference, directly supporting correct diagnosis and treatment.
3. Benchtop Gel Melting, Bulk Culture Media Preparation and Clinical Quality Control
Primary use: Enables safe, uniform heating and melting of large volumes of solid or semi‑solid culture media, nutrient agars, and agarose gels directly in 1000 mL round‑bottom flasks, as well as the preparation of temperature‑sensitive standard solutions and buffers for high‑throughput molecular diagnostics and clinical microbiology workflows. The heating mantle securely holds the vessel, allowing the top half to remain visible for easy monitoring of liquid level, clarity, and dissolved solids during operation.
How it helps: For the clinical molecular biologist and microbiology technologist processing large numbers of patient samples, the 1000 mL mantle capacity supports the preparation of up to 200‑250 culture plates or 80‑100 standard electrophoresis gels in a single batch, without the need for oversized equipment. The glass‑fibre inner sleeve with high‑quality aluminium‑silicate wool provides superior heat retention and 500 °C thermal resistance, allowing solid media to melt evenly without localised scorching that could degrade nutrients. The high‑performance alumina fibre sleeve ensures precise temperature control, uniform heating, and corrosion resistance, guaranteeing that solid residues such as nutrient powders are completely dissolved. For the patient, correctly prepared, homogeneous media in sufficient batch volume ensures that bacterial identification and molecular diagnostic testing for infectious diseases are accurate, timely, and reproducible across large numbers of patient specimens.
4. Dual‑Mode Versatility for Pharmaceutical Quality Control and Industrial‑Scale R&D
Primary use: The instrument can be used in three independent configurations: as a complete heating and stirring unit (when the mantle is attached), as a stirring‑only unit on its 20‑litre capacity ceramic‑coated work plate (when the mantle is detached), or as a dual‑purpose system where one unit heats (using the mantle) while a separate, independent unit stirs (using the work plate) simultaneously.
How it helps: For the laboratory manager and R&D director, the ability to run a 1000 mL synthesis on the heating mantle while simultaneously stirring a 5‑litre beaker of buffer on the work plate dramatically improves productivity. A single 3.7 kg instrument can process an entire week’s batch of patient digests or QC standards, then be reconfigured for general stirring tasks between runs – reducing equipment duplication and saving valuable laboratory bench space. The intelligent modular design enables a single instrument to accomplish the work of two separate pieces of equipment, lowering overall acquisition and maintenance costs. For the patient, streamlined, standardised processing of QC materials means fewer procedural errors across high‑volume sample runs, supporting faster, more accurate diagnostic test results.

5. STORAGE & HANDLING ATTRIBUTES

  • Storage: Store the instrument in a clean, dry, dust‑free environment at room temperature (15–30 °C) when not in use. Allow the unit to cool completely (verify “HOT” indicator is off) before storage. The heating mantle should be stored in a dry, clean environment to prevent moisture ingress into the fibre insulation.
  • Installation: Place the instrument on a stable, level, non‑flammable, heat‑resistant laboratory benchtop away from flammable materials, volatile solvents, combustible gases, or paper products. Allow at least 10 cm clearance on all sides for heat dissipation. Do not use near water baths or sinks where splashing may occur.
  • Cleaning: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. Wipe the ceramic‑coated work plate, the fire‑resistant metal housing, and the outer surface of the heating mantle with a soft, damp cloth using a mild laboratory detergent or 70 % isopropyl alcohol. Do not immerse the unit in liquid. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal‑scouring pads. Do not saturate the fibre insulation inside the heating mantle with liquid.
  • Pre‑use inspection: Before each use, inspect the power cord and plug for any damage. Ensure the heating mantle is free of cracks and foreign objects. Verify that the correct heating mantle size (1000 mL) is fitted for the round‑bottom flask being used. Check that the flask is dry, free of cracks, and properly seated in the mantle for maximum surface contact.
  • Round‑bottom flask selection for heating mantle: Use only standard 1000 mL round‑bottom flasks made of borosilicate glass (e.g., Pyrex or Kimax) designed to withstand the operating temperature up to 280 °C. The inner diameter of the 1000 mL round‑bottom flask mantle (144.75 mm) is specifically designed for a snug, secure fit.
  • Operation with external sensor (PT1000): Insert the PT1000 temperature sensor probe into the sample vessel and secure it with the support clamp. Do not allow the sensor wire to contact the hot heating mantle, as this may melt the insulation and cause sensor failure or an electrical hazard.
  • Attaching and removing heating mantles: Ensure the driving unit is turned off and cool. The interchangeable mantle attaches via a dedicated connector. To remove after use, allow the mantle to cool completely (verify “HOT” indicator is off) before disconnecting.
  • Independent dual‑purpose operation (“two‑in‑one mode”): To run the instrument as two separate devices (one heating on the mantle, one stirring on the base work plate), follow the manufacturer’s configuration instructions in the user manual.
  • Temperature self‑calibration: To perform a self‑calibration, follow the manufacturer’s procedure using a calibrated external thermometer.
  • Timer operation: Program the timer for the desired heating and stirring duration. When the timer reaches zero, the unit stops heating but continues stirring (if stirring was enabled), and the buzzer sounds. Press any button to silence the buzzer. The timer can also be deactivated if not needed.
  • Cooling down: After use, turn off the power and allow the heating mantle to cool completely until the “HOT” indicator stops flashing (typically 30–60 minutes, depending on operating temperature) before cleaning, moving, storing, or changing the mantle.
  • Periodic verification: Verify temperature accuracy periodically using a calibrated external thermometer. If deviation exceeds specifications (±1 °C <100 °C or ±1 % >100 °C), perform a temperature self‑calibration routine.

6. LABORATORY & CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

  • Primary Application: General‑purpose, large‑volume heating and stirring for clinical diagnostics (trace element digestion for heavy metal testing – blood lead, urine cadmium, heavy metals), pharmaceutical quality control, analytical chemistry (reflux, distillation, solvent evaporation), mining and geochemistry sample preparation, and academic research laboratories where the ability to heat round‑bottom flasks and flat‑bottom beakers on a single versatile platform is required.
Clinical Role: A versatile and essential benchtop instrument for hospital and clinical chemistry laboratories, toxicology departments, pharmaceutical R&D and quality control, analytical chemistry departments, environmental testing stations, mining laboratories, and research institutions. Critical for large‑batch sample digestion for trace element analysis, agarose gel preparation (80‑100 gels per batch), clean and efficient culture media preparation (200‑250 plates per batch), and reliable dissolution testing where precise, safe, and versatile heating with stirring is mandatory for diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.
SAFETY HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  • Burn Hazard — High Plate Temperature: The work plate can reach 280 °C, and the heating mantle remains dangerously hot for an extended period after the power is turned off. Do not touch the work plate or heating mantle for at least 30–60 minutes after use, or until the residual heat “HOT” indicator stops flashing. Use appropriate heat‑resistant gloves or tools when handling vessels on the hot plate. Severe burns can occur upon contact.
  • Residual Heat Warning — Continues Even When Off: The “HOT” safety indicator activates when the work plate exceeds 50 °C and continues flashing on the display even after the unit is turned off (if still connected to mains). This critical safety feature alerts users to the dangerously hot surface until the plate is safe to touch (temperature drops below 50 °C). Always verify that the “HOT” indicator has stopped flashing before touching the plate or mantle.
  • Fire Hazard — Avoid Flammable Materials: Do not operate the instrument near flammable materials, volatile solvents, combustible gases, or paper products. Keep the work area clear of flammable substances. The heating temperature must be set at least 50 °C lower than the ignition point of the chemicals being used. Do not leave the instrument unattended while operating at high temperatures without appropriate safety protocols. The independent safety circuit (420 °C cutoff) provides backup protection but should not replace operator vigilance.
  • Over‑Temperature Protection — Dual Independent Safety Circuits: The instrument has dual independent safety circuits that continuously monitor the device. If the work plate exceeds 420 °C or a built‑in sensor malfunctions, the machine stops heating, displays an error message and may sound an audible alarm. If the first safety circuit fails and a short‑circuit is detected, the second safety circuit cuts off the power supply to ensure operator safety.
  • Interchangeable Heating Mantle — Correct Attachment and Removal: Ensure the driving unit is turned off and cool before attaching or removing heating mantles. The interchangeable mantle attaches via a dedicated connector. Fit the mantle firmly onto the work plate and lock it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. To remove after use, allow the mantle to cool completely (verify “HOT” indicator is off) before disconnecting. Only use mantles specifically designed for this model.
  • Vessel Selection — Proper Flask Fit: Use only standard 1000 mL round‑bottom flasks made of borosilicate glass (e.g., Pyrex or Kimax) designed to withstand the operating temperature up to 280 °C. Do not use cracked, damaged, or non‑borosilicate glassware. The inner diameter of the 1000 mL round‑bottom flask mantle (144.75 mm) is specifically designed for a snug, secure fit. A loose‑fitting flask can cause uneven heating and create a fire hazard.
  • Thermal Shock — Gradual Heating Only: Do not place a cold flask directly into a pre‑heated heating mantle, as thermal shock may cause the glass to crack or shatter. Allow the flask and heating mantle to heat up together gradually. The high‑temperature glass‑fibre liner reaches temperature quickly; allow the flask to warm slowly. Sudden temperature changes can cause dangerous glass fragmentation.
  • Magnetic Field Interference — Medical Devices: The stirrer contains strong permanent magnets. People with implanted medical devices (e.g., pacemakers, implantable cardioverter‑defibrillators, neurostimulators) should keep a safe distance of at least 30 cm from the operating stirrer. Do not place the instrument near credit cards, hard drives, computer monitors, or other magnetic‑sensitive equipment.
  • Electrical Safety — Proper Grounding: Do not operate the instrument with wet hands. Ensure the mains power cable does not come into contact with liquids or sharp edges that could damage the insulation. Use only the supplied grounded power cord and ensure the outlet provides proper grounding. Disconnect the power cord before cleaning, servicing, or moving the unit. Do not operate if the power cord is damaged. The IP21 rating offers protection against vertically falling water drops, but does not protect against immersion or significant liquid spills.
  • Starting Stirring — Smooth Acceleration: Always start stirring at a low speed (200–300 rpm) and gradually increase to the desired level. A sudden high‑speed start may cause the stir bar to decouple, spin erratically, or strike the vessel wall, leading to splashing, spillage or vessel breakage. The brushless DC motor provides smooth acceleration, but operator caution is still required.
  • Chemical Compatibility — Ceramic Coating Limits: The ceramic‑coated aluminium work plate is resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis and organic solvents. However, prolonged exposure to some concentrated mineral acids (e.g., hydrofluoric acid, concentrated sulphuric acid) or aggressive organic solvents may degrade the coating. Clean spills promptly. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for specific chemicals. Never heat sealed vessels or containers that cannot vent pressure, as explosion may result.
  • Spill Management — Prevent Liquids Entering Housing: If a liquid spill occurs on the work plate or heating mantle during operation, turn off the heating and stirring functions immediately. Unplug the unit, allow the plate to cool (if heated) and wipe the spill clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not let liquids seep under the work plate or into the housing. The IP21 rating does not protect against pooling liquids or immersion. If the inner glass‑fibre chamber of the heating mantle becomes contaminated, do not attempt to clean it; once the insulation is saturated, the whole mantle may need replacement.
  • Operating Environment — Clean, Stable Benchtop: Use the instrument indoors only, on a stable, level, non‑flammable laboratory benchtop. Do not use in explosive atmospheres or in the presence of flammable gases or vapours. The permissible ambient temperature range is 5–40 °C with relative humidity not exceeding 80 %. Allow at least 10 cm clearance on all sides for proper heat dissipation and ventilation. Do not cover the instrument during operation.
  • External PT1000 Sensor Safety — Secure Placement: When using the optional PT1000 external temperature sensor, insert the sensor probe into the sample vessel and secure it with a suitable stand and clamp (sold separately). Do not allow the sensor cable to contact the hot work plate, as this may melt the wire insulation and cause sensor failure, electrical hazard or burns. If any abnormal situation is detected (e.g., sensor failure or disconnection, indicated by an error code on the display), the heating mode will automatically shut down as a safety precaution. Always inspect the sensor cable for damage before use.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance — Safe Cleaning Protocols: Unplug the unit and allow the work plate and heating mantle to cool completely before cleaning. Wipe the ceramic‑coated work plate and the metal housing with a soft, damp cloth using a mild laboratory detergent or 70 % isopropyl alcohol. Do not immerse the unit in liquid. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal‑scouring pads that could scratch the ceramic coating. Do not saturate the fibre insulation inside the heating mantle with liquid; if contaminated, replace the mantle. The brushless DC motor requires no routine maintenance, but periodically inspect the power cord for signs of wear or damage.
  • Training Requirement — Qualified Users Only: Only trained laboratory personnel with appropriate technical background in hotplate stirrer and heating mantle operation should operate this instrument for clinical diagnostic or research applications. Users must read and understand the operator’s manual before first use. Laboratory managers should ensure all operators are aware of the proper procedure for starting and stopping stir bars, changing heating mantles, and the specific safety considerations for heating and stirring hazardous materials.

2. FIRST AID MEASURES

  • Burn from Hot Surface: If skin contacts the hot work plate, heating mantle, or a hot vessel, immediately cool the burn area with cool (not cold) running water for at least 15 minutes. Do not apply ice directly. Remove any jewellery or constrictive items from the affected area. Cover the burn with a sterile, non‑adhesive dressing. Seek medical attention for large‑area burns (larger than the palm of the hand), deep burns (white or charred appearance), or burns causing blistering. For burns on the face, hands, feet, or genitals, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Fire: If a fire occurs on or near the instrument, immediately turn off the power if safe to do so. Use a class ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher or carbon dioxide (CO₂) extinguisher. Do not use water on electrical fires. Evacuate the immediate area if the fire cannot be immediately controlled. Call emergency services.
  • Chemical Splash to Eyes: If a heated chemical sample or reagent splashes into the eyes, immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of cool water or sterile saline for at least 15 minutes. Hold the eyelids open to ensure thorough rinsing. Remove contact lenses if present and easily removable. Seek immediate medical attention. Do not attempt to neutralise the chemical in the eye.
  • Chemical Splash to Skin: Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Flush the affected skin area with cool running water for at least 15 minutes. Do not rub or scrub. Seek medical evaluation for chemical burns or if irritation persists. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the specific chemical involved.
  • Inhalation of Fumes: If fumes from heated chemicals are inhaled, move the affected person to fresh air immediately. Keep the person warm and at rest. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen if trained. If breathing stops, perform CPR. Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Electrical Shock: If an electrical shock incident occurs, disconnect power at the circuit breaker before attempting to assist the victim. Do not touch the victim until the power is disconnected. Once safe, assess the victim for responsiveness and breathing. Call emergency medical services immediately. Perform CPR if trained and necessary. Seek medical evaluation for all electrical shock victims, even if symptoms appear mild.

3. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

  • Flammability — Primary Fire Hazard is Heated Chemicals: The instrument’s metal housing is non‑flammable, but the power cord, internal wiring, electronic components, and plastic control elements are combustible. The glass‑fibre inner sleeve and ceramic‑coated work plate are non‑flammable. The primary fire hazard is the flammable chemicals, solvents, or materials being heated in the flask or stirred on the work plate.
  • Extinguishing Media — Electrical Fires Require CO₂ or Dry Chemical: Use carbon dioxide (CO₂), dry chemical (ABC class), or alcohol‑resistant foam extinguishers for fires involving the electrical components or nearby flammable materials. Do not use water on electrical fires, as water conducts electricity and can cause electrical shock or damage the instrument.
  • Fire Response — Isolate Power and Evacuate: Immediately disconnect power to the instrument at the circuit breaker if safe to do so. Evacuate the immediate area. Use an appropriate fire extinguisher for small, contained fires. For larger fires, evacuate the laboratory and call emergency services. Do not attempt to extinguish a fire if not trained or if the fire is spreading rapidly.
  • Special Protective Equipment for Firefighters: Firefighters should wear self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and full structural firefighting gear (including gloves, boots, helmet, and turnout coat) when fighting fires in laboratory settings, as combustion products may include toxic fumes from burning plastics, chemicals, and electrical components.
